Rangefinders

We received 14 responses from the 89 e-mails that were sent on this issue. The opinions were varied: 6 against; 5 in favor; and 3 with no opinion. As the response was not adequate to make a determination, the Board held a vote at our meeting yesterday. The vote was 4-1 in favor of the devices - for a trial period beginning immediately and to continue through our next Board meeting in November.

HOWEVER, the local rule we have adopted is as follows:  A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if during tournament play a player uses a device that has other functions that might affect their play (measures wind speed, gradient, temperature, etc.) the player WILL BE DISQUALIFIED from the competition, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

If a player elects to use a distance-measuring device AND it has not been checked with the tournament director PRIOR to the competition, the player WILL BE DISQUALIFIED from the competition.

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask any of your Board members. You can e-mail them using the club's website. Go to www.riolapazgc.org and go to the “Meet Your Board” link under “Membership”.
