Rio La Paz Golf Club Dress Code

The following are typical of what is allowed at any golf course, whether it is a golf club, private course, semi-private club or public course. Unless otherwise indicated, the following apply to both men and women.

  1. Soft spiked shoes must be worn on the course.
  2. Shorts should be of the Bermuda type – somewhere around the knee. Short shorts are not appropriate. Remember that when you bend over to tee up your ball or pick it up after you have holed out that nobody is interested in “your business”. In fact, most golfers find this type of dress offensive in this type of environment. For women, if you wear a skirt, go with a skort (combination short and skirt). Denim cut-off jeans, hip-hop pants and other sports style shorts (e.g., basketball, running, cycling) are not allowed under any circumstances.
  3. If long pants are worn, they should be slacks (similar to Dockers) – While the course does not currently restrict the wearing of blue jeans, this attire is strictly prohibited at most courses. As such, and in effort to attract members that will support a private course, jeans will not be allowed in any club–sponsored event. An even greater consideration should be that clothing should be nonrestrictive and nonbinding so that your golf game is not impeded. We all know that this game is hard enough without adding another obstacle.
  4. Men should always wear shirts with collars – No T–shirts or tank tops. As the weather gets colder, turtlenecks and sweaters are suggested instead of sweatshirts.
  5. Women’s shirts should fall into one of the following categories:
    • Shirt with collar (polo type, mock turtle or turtleneck)
    • Sleeveless, with a collar
    • If sleeveless and no collar, the neck must be crew style (if you are not sure what this means, either ask or don’t wear it).
Under no circumstances will crop tops and/or halter tops be allowed. Additionally, the shirt must be long enough so that when the arms are lifted over the head, no skin is exposed.
  6. Sweats are not proper golf attire – (e.g., Russell Athletic) should be left for other sports activities such as weight lifting and running – There is plenty of golf attire specifically designed for cold and wet weather.

While many may have a body form that they are proud of and like to show off, the golf course is not the place to strut your stuff.

PLEASE…. Before you leave home, make sure you are wearing the right clothes.

For those of you who hold Corporate memberships, it is your responsibility to ensure that all employees covered under your membership are aware of these guidelines and that they adhere to them.

Members not adhering to the dress code during regular club events may be assessed a penalty of $20.00.

In addition to a monetary penalty, members not adhering to the dress code in NCGA events are not allowed to play until the “violation” is corrected. If applicable, penalties for delay of play will be imposed.
